Superintendent Jason Manuel thanked Board Member Lisa Parker for her service to our School District and the City of Germantown. He briefed on how she has been serving the community in different capacities, to name a few - crossing guard at Riverdale Elementary school, Alderman for the City of Germantown and then a Board member who helped us start this district. she was the First Chairman of the Board, having to create policies within a short period of 6 months. She did everything best for the children and best for the City. He stated that she will be missed dearly and thanked her for her leadership that was truly incredible. On behalf of the District , he presented her with a picture frame and book, as memories with her service to the Children of the District. |

CFO Kevin Jones reported the Total Assets and Total Liabilities and the Fund Balances. General Fixed Asset Account Group – amounts have been updated based upon the close of the RES construction project to buildings and for accumulated depreciation as of June 30, 2018. HEALTH INSURANCE/OPEB TRUST FUND For the Q/E September 30, 2018, there were approximately $100K in retiree claims due from the OPEB Trust Fund to the Health Insurance Fund. This reimbursement will decrease claims year-to-date.

2019-2020 GMSD Proposed Instructional Calendar
Highlights: · Teachers have 7 days prior to school starting to prepare. (4 In-service, 3 Admin) · Fall PD Day is November 5 (Election Day) · 2 Abbreviated Days for Students (1/2 days on last day of each semester) · Exams given over three days rather than two. · Teachers have 4 flex PD days (November 25 & 26 and January 2 & 3) · Two weeks out at Christmas for teachers and students

Discussion:
Chairman Betsy Landers said that as identified by the Board, she was able to interview three firms for the selection of the General Counsel. She gave a brief summary of the process in which five questions were given to each of the firms to answer based on their experience with K 12 schools and with the consultation of Randall Benett, General Counsel for the Tennessee School Board Association TSBA. She said that after she reviewed the answers and shared with the board members on the updates, she recommends Ms. Cheryl Rummage Estes from Lewis Thomason to be selected as the General Counsel for the Germantown Board of Education. |
