Holiday Card Contest winners:
Each winner has had their work framed and will receive a gift card from Hobby Lobby.
The “official holiday card winner” has had their card made into a greeting card sent out by the district.

Middle School Design: Rachel Christenbury, 8th Grade, Houston Middle School
High School: Alexander Buckley, 12th Grade, Houston High School
Official GMSD Holiday Card Winner: Julie Earnest, 11th Grade, Houston High School Coach Wolff Germantown Municipal School District’s Houston High School girls soccer team has had quite the year. The varsity girls soccer team won the program’s 8th state championship with a 1-0 victory over Collierville. This is the 36th team state championship for Houston High School’s athletic program. In addition to the state champion title, the varsity team went undefeated this season. For 14 consecutive years, the Houston girls soccer program has won the District, Regional and Sectional Championship while earning a berth in the state tournament. This is the longest active streak in Tennessee. Aside from being the 2017 Tennessee State Champions, the Houston girls soccer team is currently ranked #1 in the nation by USA Today. Members include:

6.A. TLN Update (Tennessee Legislature)

Discussion:
· The Department of Education has reconvened its Task Force on TNReady. They added Rep. Mark White as a member. They met for the first time on December 11th. The will meet most months until June. I will be listening to the meetings as well as hope to attend one of the meetings during the Legislative Session.
· Arlington is hosting a Legislative breakfast on January 5th. We will be able to speak with them prior to the 111th Session which will reconvene on January 9th . We will ensure that they understand which Resolutions we have passed as well as our concerns over the TNReady Testing. |

Discussion:
Rezoning Committee Update Focus group meetings of the rezoning committee were held on November 9th and December 15th. November 9th minutes and committee members are listed on our website under Quick Links. December 15th minutes will be posted. The December 15th meeting was a zoning activity for the committee. The committee was divided into groups where they had a map with all of the neighborhoods and students in the district on it and they zoned all of the schools. The next committee meeting is in January, and the committee will be looking at those suggested zoning plans that came from the meeting and provide pros and cons for each one. Next steps: January - Third Zoning committee meeting, January - Board work session on zoning February -Two public forums and a survey March - Board vote on zoning
Germantown Holiday Parade Thank you to all of the district staff, teachers, parents and students who participated in the Germantown parade representing GMSD. Special thanks to Kate Crowder, who organized and led the district staff in building a spectacular float to represent GMSD with an original song performed by students and our very own superintendent. GMSD took first place in the parade.
Holiday Concerts Thank you to all of our students and teachers for the many holiday choir, band and orchestra concerts this past month. On behalf of the board, I want to wish everyone a happy holiday.

REPORT TOTAL ASSETS AND TOTAL LIAB AND FUND BAL
CAFETERIA FUND ARAMARK continues to report a profit y-t-d, which is now covering District expenditures. A $56K reserve is reported at 11.30.17.
HEALTH INSURANCE FUND A month-to-month comparison of claims expense was added to the financial report. Claims are now stabilizing to historical trends.
CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND $940K was received from Shelby County Commission for their 17-18 funding of capital projects.
OPEB TRUST Investment performance reflects an unrealized gain of $102,221 y-t-d. Actual return rate is 7.6% through November, ahead of the annualized 7% return projected by our actuary.

Houston High School: Interviews for a Physical Education Teacher due to a resignation. Sergio Catron has been hired effective date: 1.4.18 as a special education assistant due to a resignation.
Houston Middle School: New hire, Cynthia Davenport, will start on 1/3/2018 due to retirement.
Riverdale School: Interviews for a general education assistant are concluding.
Pending hires: § A School Nurse Position Opening at Riverdale School due to recent resignation. § A Staff Accountant Position is open at the District Office

Superintendent Jason Manuel said that he wanted to reassure to the community that the District is aware of the Safety and Security needed at the High School and necessary procedures are in place with the help of two Resource officers and several Adult Supervision by Teachers and Administrators. Chairman Linda Fisher announced that the next Board Meeting was scheduled for Tuesday January 16 at the City Hall. |
