7.B. Chairman's Report
Speaker(s):
Linda Fisher
Discussion:
Chairman Linda Fisher gave the Chairman's Report as follows,
"It is that time of the year at the end of school when there are art shows and choir, band and orchestra performances. I know several of our board members have attended these artistic performances and shows by our students. Thank you to all of our band and choir directors for all of their hard work and long hours.
Germantown Education Commission held their annual Education Celebration and recognized the following teachers: HHS Jim Smith was named Teacher of the Year and HMS Katie Prentice was selected as New Teacher of the year. Thank you to Dr. Rayburn for bringing his HHS choral group Fifth Measure to perform for the celebration that night.
Riverdale ground breaking ceremony was a joyous occasion for all of us. It celebrated the beginning of a new milestone in the journey of our school district.
State Board of Education Rules and Regulations require that every board member participate in seven hours of training annually. Ken Hoover, Lisa Parker, Ms. Subramani and myself attended Board/Superintendent Relations Academy in Jackson. Mr. Dely and Ms. Williams are scheduled to attend other academies on other dates.
Finally I want to encourage everyone to go to the GMSD web site and look at the number of students and teachers of GMSD who have received local, regional, state and national awards. As we end the second year of school for GMSD, I could not be prouder of the accomplishments of our teachers and our students. The past two years our district has worked hard to enhance our academic, extracurricular and athletic programs. Local control is about us building the future and I believe we are doing just that."
