9.B. Director's Update
Discussion:
Thanks to the Board for allowing the recognition of students. Congratulations to the group of teachers receiving tenure tonight! Attended different student events, and we have incredible students in Elizabethton. Very thankful for everyone that works with those students. Excited to present the contract to begin HME renovations. Lots of extracurricular activities going on. January 3rd, luncheon for staff and musical presentation by staff. Please consider moving the February 16th Board Meeting to Monday, February 13th due to the TSBA Legislative and Legal Conference Board Members will be attending. Congratulations to EHS, we were top 20 in the state that scored 21 or higher, and also in top 20 in average top composite scores. Tremendous accomplishment. Proud of students and staff. Thanks for all you do! We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

9.C. Board Member Reports
Discussion:
Ms. Schaff: January 3rd luncheon at EHS. There's lots of talent in Elizabethton City Schools.
Mr. Pless spoke about Gracie and a couple of other students who are concerned about the changing grading scale. Students that take that kind of initiative are refreshing. They should be commended for trying to find things that will benefit all students. |
|
9.D. City Council Liaison's Report
Discussion:
Mr. Simerly had a prior commitment and couldn't attend.
|
|
9.E. Student Liaison's Report
Discussion:
Key Club and NHS hosted a toy drive. NHS gathered around 175 toys for Niswonger. Key Club donated to Toys for Tots. Lots of people donated. Randy Little won Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year and Tiana Hitchew won the Voice of Democracy Essay. They'll be going to a regional competition. TuffyCon where people could come and talk about anime, cartoons, and board games. Over 200 students attended, and 14-15 vendors. Super pleasant to see the school supporting something that's not athletic or musical. Very impactful for all students.
Also want to recognize Natalie and Lauren. In her Creative Writing Class this summer. They recently went to a Barter Youth Playwright Competition. They stated there were 300 entries and Lauren Watson was a finalist. Inspired her, great experience! |

Emily Mathews shared information about the survey and how the information will be collected. TN Together (opioid epidemic in Tennessee) initiative gives county-level data that could be used toward prevention efforts and also state funding for our county. This is another way to collect information to help educate and tools to fight this serious problem. It's a reality where we are. We need to be proactive. Brittany Horton also added that Carter County is on board with the survey. The last time this survey was done was 2018-2019.
