Resignation of Dr. Eric Jones

The following information was presented to the Board from Kevin Alexander, Chairman of the JMCSS Board.

1) acknowledge the resignation received from Dr. Jones effective June 30, 2019

We do not have to vote to accept Dr. Jones resignation because he is within his rights to resign per his contract.  I have confirmed this with Dale Thomas

2) Consider the options for our search for a new superintendent.

A) Local search accepting resumes over the next few weeks.  We would have discretion to interview all the applicants, a select few of the applicants, or none of the applicants.  This could be accomplished at no cost and would not prohibit us from proceeding with a broader search if we choose not to offer a contract to any of the local search candidates.  

B) TSBA Search 

    Option 1 $6,500 or Option 2 $11,500 Conduct Employee and            Community Meetings

C) Could use a private firm.

3) Decide on qualifications to be advertised in any search.

4) Consider appointing an interim superintendent to begin July 1.           Consider opening this position up to applicants also.

Kevin Alexander stated that the Board does not need a vote to accept a resignation from a Superintendent.  The Jackson-Madison County School Board will accept the resignation from Dr. Eric Jones effective June 30, 2019.  

The JMCSS Board discussed the options to use for a Superintendent search.  

Morris Merriweather made a motion to use a National search and not to use TSBA for a Superintendent.  There was not a second to the motion and the motion failed.  

Morris Merriweather made a motion to name Glenn Valux as the Interim Superintendent.  This motion did not come about due to some questions concerning an email sent to the Board Members.

The JMCSS Board agreed to discuss the next steps in the Superintendent search during the May 6, 2019 Work Session.
