Discussion:
Prior to a motion for the Budget agenda item, Dr. Highlander requested to make an alternative motion that the Board approve the budget from last year plus the $9 million growth money, plus ask the County Commission to fund a 5% across the board pay increase for all teachers and for all classified personnel. Discussion followed. Mrs. Robinson asked about the increase for Exceptional Education and why it wasn't included in the motion since it is required by law. Dr. Highlander stated he would be willing to add that if it would get it through. He asked what the total cost would be but that was not known. Dr. Johnson stated that he would ask Mr. Goldberg to do some quick math as he wasn't sure if we could afford a 5% pay increase as well as doing the Special Ed component. Dr. Highlander restated that he was not asking with that but asking the County Commission to fund the 5% pay increase. Mr. Goldberg stated the administration had presented a $443 million budget and requested approval for that budget. He further stated that there was not another budget of another amount.
