August 5, 2025 at 4:00 PM - Bradley County Board of Education Special Called Voting Meeting

Discussion:  Chairman Beaty called the meeting to order and welcomed dignitaries in attendance. 

Discussion:  Board Member Ted Bryson led the pledge to the flag.

Discussion:  Vicki Beaty, Board Chair, read a statement with directions before Mr. Marlow began to speak.  

Daniel Marlow, Upper River Road, District 2, signed up to speak.  He spoke about the Secondary Cell Phone Plan that was sent out by the High Schools.  His concerns were with the $50.00 and $100.00 fees and the amount of time a student's phone could be taken if they did not follow the Plan.  He noted that student cell phones were actually owned by the parents and taking them would cause many issues for families.  He also asked if teachers would be held to the same standards.  

Discussion:  There was much discussion on the differences of the High School Cell Phone Plan and Policy 6.213 - Use of Wireless Communication Devices and Electronic Devices.  Policy 6.213 is a Bradley County Board of Education policy.  The High School Cell Phone Plan is a school procedure.  The concerns are with the Plan.  The number of days a phone can be taken and the amount of money that a parent can pay to get the phone back were the biggest concerns.  Between the time the Plan was sent out and the Board meeting, the schools took the fees out of the plan.  As for the policy, it was written to follow the changes in the law.
