Discussion:
The Capital Outlay Committee (Chairman Troy Weathers, Vice Chair Amanda Lee, Chuck McKay, Susan Willcutt, and Ellen Smith) met on Monday. The committee went through the list of request from the Principals that were in order by choice, PIE Fire Marshall safety request, and money for secondary athletics to come up with these recommendations, Chairman Weathers explained.

Discussion:
An update of the PIE Center was given to the Board by Kyle Page and Corbett Drew. Importance is being put on CORE with about 90% complete right now. Many LOI's and Leases are going out. The Board had questions about the timing of an Open House. Mr. Page knows that August 1 will not work. He is thinking more like October.

15. Tennis Courts at BCHS and WVHS Update - Kyle Page
Discussion:
Kyle Page gave the Board an update on the Tennis Courts at Bradley Central and Walker Valley High School. He told the Board that BCHS has fencing with some punch items and temporary stripping, so they can get in a few games. BCHS request to wait on surfacing, so the surfacing will begin at WVHS as soon as fencing is complete. Pipe was installed to help with drainage.

16. Teacher Appreciation Discussion - Amanda Lee
Discussion:
Teacher Appreciation week is May 2-6 this year. In the past, the Board took cakes to each school for the staff to enjoy until COVID. The schools receive money to treat the teachers during Teacher Appreciation week each year. Since COVID, the Board has been adding additional money to the money already being sent to the schools, so they can make the treat a little bigger. This year, the Board will continue giving additional money, along with sending a letter to all employees letting them know how much they are appreciated, Vice Chair Amanda Lee told the Board.

18.a. Charleston Elementary - Destination Imagination Pilot Program 2021-22 - Kirk Campbell
Discussion:
Kirk Campbell and Carrie Gilbert presented a new program they are piloting this year to the Board. The program is a STEAM based competition each week. Student-led and student driven. The students gain a wide range of ideas, skills, and techniques while solving challenges independently. The program is k-12 and university level with local and national competitions. Charleston is piloting 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students this year.

Discussion:
Dr. Cash told the Board about the 3rd Annual Math Met at Walker Valley High School. She said it was a great event with Hopewell and Park View walking away as winners.

23. Announcements - During May, there are two meetings scheduled. Thursday, May 5th, is a Work Session and Tuesday, May 10th, is the Regular Board Meeting. Also, on Tuesday, May 10th, the Board will attend a Reception for Retirees of Bradley County Schools in the Bradley High School Library beginning at 4:00 p.m.
