August 12, 2021 at 5:30 PM - Bradley County Board of Education Regular Meeting

Discussion:  The pledge was led by Sheriff Steve Lawson.

Discussion:  No one signed up to address the Board.  

Discussion:  Ocoee Middle School had a medical emergency during dismissal on Friday.  A child had a cardiac incident at school and fell to the floor.  The Emergency Response Team for OMS went into action to help the student.  The team has been trained and each team member has a job.  They carried their jobs out to help this student.  It was 10 minutes from the time he hit the floor to the time he was loaded in the ambulance, Principal Limburg told the Board.  He received CPR and the AED was used on him by the team.  Doctors from TC Thompson and Vanderbilt said that if it had not been for the good work of the teams that helped this student, he would not be here today.  Dr. Cash and Principal Limburg honored the team members for their good work with Above and Beyond awards for Jodi Cofer, Maddie Golden, Jacob , Mason, Spencer Ferguson, Dep. Tony Moore, Sasha Hall, Diana Bivens, and Janie Holland.  

Discussion:  This item was approved at the last Board meeting. The new Principal didn't know it.  

Discussion:  Arlette Robinson, CTE Director, brought a group to present a new program they will begin at the High Schools.  The program will be called Capstone Portfolio.  Students will develop the portfolio in advisory each year.  The portfolio will grow with the student throughout their 4 years and will include their College and Career Ready skills for college or employment.  The portfolio will be used for scholarships, applications and interviews.  

Discussion:  Corbett Drew gave the Board an update on the PIE Center.

• There are a few delays, cost increases, and supply chain problems but none are a problem to the project just now.   
• You can see a big difference to the site work.  Chattanooga Gas will install their main soon.
• Paving will begin soon.
• The City is doing curving on East side of Parker and they will be back to do the west side.
• HVAC is done
• Common areas in the corridor are being dry walled and painting has begun.
• We now have power on site and water meters are ready to be set. 
• In the Interior, the common areas are coming together
• GOAL - we are putting up walls.
• CONCLAVE - steel is up, roof on, and waiting on wall panels.

 

Discussion:  Dr. Cash told the Board that the project is being redesigned with engineers and the drawings will be coming in the September meeting.    

Discussion:  Kyle Page gave the Board an update on the BCHS Science Wing project.  Geo Services is on site.  They are taking samples and we are waiting on their results.   

Discussion:  The BCHS Track project was also updated by Kyle Page.  Geo Services is on site.  They are taking samples and we are waiting on their results but there is good dirt under the track.  

Discussion:  A Bid package has gone out to Baseline and Turf of America.  They are working on a number to get back to us, Mr. Page told the Board.  

Discussion:  Walker Valley's Turf field is complete except for letters and numbers that we are waiting on.  We still need to fix the parking lot and fence next to the field.  Bradley Central's Turf field  has new curving and a retention wall that is complete.  The water problem has been taken care of.  Bradley will be finished by September 10th, Mr. Page told the Board.
