2. Reveiw Options and Projects for Fund Balance
Discussion:
Mr. Weathers welcomed County Commissioners Tom Crye and Louie Alford to the meeting.
The reason for this meeting is to discuss our fund balance. Dr. Cash explained that the district is seeing an increase in its fund balance as a result of the CARES Act funding we are receiving. We were able to move capital outlay projects over to be funded by ESSER money we are receiving. Our fund balance is currently at 9% and when we roll in July, we will be at 14%. We never have money like this, so we would like to use some of the fund balance for some athletic projects on our wish list. Football coaches Floyd and Akins, from BCHS and WVHS, answered questions for the Board about the safety and durability of an astroturf playing surface for the football fields. Coach Akins told them that it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to get the current grass fields to the same level of safety and consistency that the astroturf fields offer. Putting down astroturf will save the program around $75,000 in annual maintenance cost for grass. Tennis courts at BCHS could be resurfaced and tennis courts could be added to WVHS, Dr. Cash told the Board. There could also be some improvements to the track and field with this money. Another project that has been in the works for several years is the Hopewell/Highway 60 Project. Dr. Cash told the Board that to start the project, the Board will need to purchase another 1.6 acres from Volunteer Electric. She is working with Aaron Hood to see if that is possible. |
3. Discussion of Science Wing Plans
Discussion:
Peter Ludman from Cope Architecture gave some preliminary drawings and information on surveys for the Science Wing at Bradley Central High School. Dr. Cash told the Board that she would like Peter to do the groundwork so they can be ready to start when the Commission gives the Board the money to build the Science Wing.
