April 8, 2021 at 5:30 PM - Bradley County Board of Education Regular Meeting

Discussion:  Mrs Amanda Lee, 6th District Board Member, welcomed the families, staff, community, and representatives to the Board meeting at Lake Forest Middle School.  Senator Todd Gardenhire, Senator Mike Bell, and Representative Dan Howell came for a couple of presentations.  She also thanked Mr. Stephenson and his staff for the meal they prepared for the Board before the meeting and for having the Board meeting at his school.   

Discussion:  The invocation was given by Michael Caywood, Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Discussion:  The pledge to the flag was led by Mrs. Lee

Discussion:  No one signed up to address the Board.  

Discussion:  Dr. Cash reported:

• She visited Wright Brothers site to see the pilot program for the PIE Center.  The students are ready, When she asked them what they learned from the program, they told her how to be a leader, how to be a teammate, and how important it is to give back.  The students helped hand out food when Wright Brothers helped feed families at Easter.  
• Bradley had their mock crash that was more than well done.  The prom is this weekend, and it showed students that decisions have lifelong consequences.
• Teachers had Professional Development training and were diving deep and enjoying it.
• We are in the middle of Open Enrollment.   We are working together to get the word out with the help of Sheena Newman, Scott Webb, and even our maintenance trucks have signs on them. 
• Please put on your calendars, Ribbon Cutting for Black Fox and North Lee on May 11th and STEM Day in our schools in May.  We will get the dates out to you.   

 

Discussion:  Representative Dan Howell, Senator Mike Bell, and Senator Todd Gardenhire presented Jerry Frazier's family with a Resolution that passed through the House and Senate honoring Mr. Frazier's accomplishments.  He was a Teacher, Coach, Principal, Superintendent, and Board Member in Bradley County Schools.  

Discussion:  Representative Dan Howell, Senator Mike Bell, and Senator Todd Gardenhire presented the Lake Forest Bruins Girls Basketball team a Resolution that passed through the House and Senate for winning the TMSAA 2020-21 Class AAA State Companionship.

Discussion:  Rene' Diamond, Elementary Instructional Supervisor, presented an acrylic to Heather Donegan, 2nd grade teacher from Valley View Elementary School, for the K-4 Teacher of the Year for Bradley County Schools.  Rebecca Hames from Lake Forest Middle School was presented an acrylic by Todd Shoemaker, Secondary Instructional Supervisor, for the 5-8 Bradley County Schools' Teacher of the Year.  Grades 9-12 Teacher of the Year was Emma Barnes from Walker Valley High School.  Mr. Shoemaker also presented her with an acrylic.  

Discussion:  Dr. Cash presented Principal Jodie Grannan from Park View Elementary School with an acrylic for Bradley County Schools' Principal of the Year.  

Discussion:  Dr. Cash presented Emily Brown, School Nutrition Supervisor and Angie Gill Tuck, Data and Analysis Supervisor, with an acrylic for Bradley County Schools' Supervisors of the Year.  

Discussion:  Mr. Shoemaker introduced Brad Franks, Director of Helen Ross McNabb Center.  Mr. Franks told the Board that the Governor funded a Behavior Health Liaison that will serve Bradley Central High School, Bradley County Virtual School, and Oak Grove Elementary School.  The Liaison will be housed at Bradley County Virtual School.  They will be able to help with training and getting resources for families.  Students will be able to be seen at school which will help with student's missing time from school for appointments.  

Discussion:  Mr. Eddie Frazier requested for Coach Ben Smith that the Board add a Girl's Wrestling Team to Bradley Central High School's Program.

Discussion:  Corbett Drew and kyle Page gave the Board and update.

• Site and shell package is progressing.  The pace is increasing.  We have 13 subcontracts and about 100 workers on site now.
• When you have toured, and we would say this will be here - now you can see where it is.
• There have been some challenges, a lot of rain, some pipe failures, and some unsuitable soil, but we are still progressing. 
• Interior build outs are in process.  Conclave and GOAL will be the first to come before you.
• The leases for Center for Sports Medicine and Wright Brothers are iin lawyer's hands right now.  They will be coming soon.  

Mr. Page told the Board that just for clarification he wanted to be sure the Board members understood that Change Order 4 (which was in the Consent Agenda) was a -0- dollar change order.  It was approved by executive approval and the put into the consent agenda for the full Board vote.
