*2017-2018 Calendar Approval
Speaker(s):  Dr. Brian Norton
Discussion:

Dr. Norton stated that the Calander Committee consisted of several teachers from the district and that all of them had worked very hard on creating this calendar for the next school year. Dr. Norton informed the board that the Fall semester would have 88 instructional days and the Spring semester would have 92. This decision was made considering winter weather usually occurs in months early in the Spring and can sometimes cause loss of instructional days.

Dr. Norton provided a few important dates: August 4th will be an abbreviated first day; no school on August 31st and September 1st for Parent Teacher Conference and Professional Development days, no school for Labor Day on September 4th of 2017. Fall Break will be October 9-13 and school will be closed three days for Thanksgiving. December 19th is the last day before Christmas Breaks begin.

In 2018, school will resume on January 4th and holidays include January 15th, February 19th and 20th, Spring Break is March 26-30, April 27th for Fish Fry, and last day for students is May 24th. Graduation in 2018 will be on May 18th.

The 2017-2018 School Calendar was approved by the board.

Director's Report
Speaker(s):  Dr. Brian Norton
Discussion:

Dr. Norton congratulated Mr. Tim Mason, Grove Assistant Principal, for finishing the Governor's Academy for School Leadership. Mr. Mason is set to graduate on December 16th. He was included in the first group of assistant principals across the state to be part of this program.

Dr. Norton stated that there was a large crowd for the artificial turf discussion held earlier in the week at Henry County High School. Dr. Norton reiterated the fact that in order to build a facility like we want that is multipurpose, we have to take away the practice field and the turf must be artificial to get use out out it from several areas. He stated that in the meeting community members asked questions and were very receptive to the answers provided.

Meeting adjourned: 5:39 p.m.
