Status of Adult Education
Speaker(s):  Mrs. Donna Winders
Discussion:  Supervisor of Adult Education, Donna Winders, discussed the status of Adult Education and the upcoming changes that will be implemented as of July 1,2016. Mrs. Winders explained that the relationship between the Henry County School System and Adult Education will come to an end. As of July 1, 2016 money will no longer come from the state government for the Adult Education Office which currently serves Henry, Benton, and Carroll counties. The state is consolidating and West Tennessee will now have 17 counties under one District for Adult Education. Mrs. Winders informed the board that she had previously been allotted a budget of $200k for the three counties served here. However, with a new budget of $849k for the combined 17 counties, it is certain that budget cuts will be made. Dr. Norton advised the board that Mrs. Winders tried multiple ways to resolve the issue, but it is not economically feasible for the Henry County School System to handle all 17 counties. Mrs. Winders concluded her report by personally thanking the board for their support and dedication to the Adult Education Program.
