Presentation of Award
Speaker(s):  Mark Chandler, TN Department of Labor & Workforce Development
Discussion:  Mr. Miles informed the board of the award that had been presented by Mark Chandler, Assistant Director of the State of TN Department of Workforce Development. Mr. Chandler had planned on attending the board meeting but was unable to attend because of a health emergency with his family. In Mr. Chandler's absence, Mr. Miles explained that the district had been nominated by teacher Susan Parker. Mrs. Parker is currently on military leave and was recently deployed to serve in Iraq. Henry County School System along with Director, Sam Miles were recognized as a Patriotic Employer. Mr. Miles also read a proclamation with County Mayor Brent Greer read at last weeks County Commission meeting formally recognizing school board members in Henry County in honor of Board Appreciation week.
HCHS Baseball Fieldtrip Request - Owensboro, KY
Speaker(s):  Brian Welp
Discussion:  Mr. Mason presented a fieldtrip request by the HCHS baseball team to attend a tournament in Owensboro, Kentucky. Mr. Mason outlined the details of the trip to the board.
Common Core Update
Speaker(s):  Dr. Renea Wade & Betsy Allison
Discussion:  Dr. Wade and Mrs. Allison presented dates regarding upcoming Common Core training. Details of new Common Core requirements and trainings were outlined. Both Dr. Wade and Mrs. Allison stated that teachers and administrators will have a busy summer developing and implementing the Common Core for Henry County School System.
Storm Safe Update
Speaker(s):  Sam Miles
Discussion:  Mr. Miles informed the board that bid openings were done today and awarded. TLM Associates indicated after the close of the bids that they were confident that the project will come in as budgeted or possibly under budget. Mr. Miles also announced an important joint meeting with the board and county commission next Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Lakewood at 6pm. Lashlee Rich & TLM will be present to discuss details of the plan and conduct tours. Dinner will be provided.

Discussion:  Dr. Byrd presented information on each of the proposed policies.

Legislative Update
Discussion:  Mr. Miles informed the board to look over the TSBA Journal which had included a very informative article relating to legislative updates.
2013-2014 School Calendar
Discussion:  Mr. Miles indicated that he had been in discussion with PSSD with developing a 2013-2014 calendar. He stated that there are some issues with the calendar such as the TCAP testing window and storm safe construction at Lakewood. He plans to present the calendar at the March board meeting.
2013 Graduation Date
Discussion:  Barring any inclement weather the HCHS Graduation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at HCHS.
Reading Study
Discussion:  Mr. Miles recognized several administrators and teachers who served on a committee which he appointed to conduct a reading study. He commended everyone on their hard work. Mr. Miles introduced HCHS teacher, Rusty Wiles. Mr. Wiles has been appointed to chaperone students who were selected to attend the TSBA SCOPE Conference next month. Mr. Miles stated that students were in attendance at tonight's board meeting to observe the meeting itself and to become educated on current school board issues. Mr. Wiles introduced students attending the conference; Allie Wiles, Katie Maupin, and Riley Winchester. Adjourned at 5:24pm
