Discussion:
The Marshall County Board of Education met in special called session on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., in the Board Conference Room at Jones School to discuss Preston-Hopkins renovations.

Discussion:
John Trail of Johnson + Bailey Architects and David Wells of DMC, Inc. (the winning bidder) were also in attendance. Board members were presented documents which gave itemized details of the $1,150,000 bid submitted by DMC, Inc.; the total cost of the project, with design fees, construction phase testing, and 3% program contingency is $1,273,461. The board then began discussing ways to reduce costs in order to fit within the $1,050,000 budget. During discussions, the board eliminated or changed a number of items included on the contractor's list; with the eliminations/changes, the board saves $126,928. This total left the board with the task of finding $96,533 in savings to meet the budget. The board also asked if a savings could be found with site drainage ($130,647) and Connection Fee Allowance ($20,000). The board agreed to take $100,000 from capital outlay, with verification from finance director Janet Wiles that the money is available, to cover the remaining costs.
