2. Approve emergency purchase/replacement of a special education bus engine
Action(s):
No Action(s) have been added to this Agenda Item.
Discussion:
Mr. Sorrells explained that special education has five routes with six buses specially equipped to transport students with disabilities; one of the buses blew an engine. To replace the engine would cost between $21,000 and $22,000, while a new bus would cost $100,000. There are eight or nine years left on the life of the bus needing repairs. Mr. Beasley stated that he and transportation supervisor Chuck Brown are concerned that if another special education bus breaks down, there are no spares to pull into service. Because special education buses are equipped with lifts, a regular school bus cannot be used in its place. |
