Mr. Sorrells recognized Donna Poarch as the Marshall County High School's Classified Employee of the Month.

There was no MCEA Report.

K-6 Curriculum Coordinator Tammy Lewis presented a K-4 reading program update.

Ms. Hunter scheduled a Policy Committee meeting for Monday, February 13, 2017, at 5:30 p.m., prior to the regular monthly board meeting at 6:00 p.m.

In discussing the Forrest High School graduation date/time, the rules were suspended to allow FHS principal Davy McClaran to address the board. Following the motion to move the date back to Saturday, May 20, it was determined that the time of the ceremony will remain 9:00 a.m.

There was no new business.

During the Director's Report, Mr. Sorrells stated that an engineer will perform a sub-surface investigation on the Westhills foundation to determine the cause of the foundation shift. Mr. Sorrells would like to get specs for the lights at CVHS then let the project out for bids; he is also seeking quotes for repairing the lights in time for the baseball season. Due to school closings because of the weather, K-8 report cards have been delayed until Thursday, January 12; hopefully, 9-12 report cards will go out early next week. A roofing update sheet was provided.

He announced that the week of January 22 is School Board Appreciation Week; he pointed out the gifts provided by schools at each member's seat, and went on to thank the board members for their service and ease to work with.

On behalf of the board, Mr. Moses thanked the schools for the gifts, then reminded the board members to submit their Statement of Interests to the Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance by January 31, 2017.
