Discussion:
During the Director's Report, Ms. Abernathy thanked board members and her staff for the support shown during the loss of her father. She announced that Sanford Corporation had donated a generous amount of school supplies to the system; Ms. Lewis and Ms. Smith are currently distributing the supplies to the schools. Ms. Abernathy went on to say she met with presidents of school parent organizations just prior to the board meeting; safety was a main concern discussed during the meeting.
Continuing Director's Report, Ms. Abernathy pointed out that during a previous meeting the board approved the Reading Textbook Adoption Committee. Since then the decision has been made that only K-5 would adopt reading books, while sixth grade would adopt literature books; therefore, sixth grade teachers Alice White and Tammi Pruitt are being removed from the textbook committee. Ms. Abernathy explained that the computer labs at Cornersville Elementary, Forrest School, and MCHS will be open on designated evenings for the public's use. Flyers will be sent home with students indicating days and hours of operation.
