May 9, 2024 at 5:30 PM - Bedford County Board of Education Budget Study Session

Discussion:  The Bedford County Board of Education met for a budget work session on May 9, 2024 at 5:30 pm in the Board of Education Central Office located at 500 Madison St., Shelbyville, TN. Board members Michael Cook, Brian Crews, Dan Reed, Andrea Anderson, Barton Williams, Shanna Boyette, David Brown, and Lana Craig were present. Glenn Forsee was absent. Dr. Tammy Garrett, Mr. Tim Harwell, Mr. Neil Watson were also present.

Chairman Michael Cook opened the meeting.

There was discussion on classified salaries and how to get those up to where they should be to help with hiring new people. It was asked if there had been a request for new custodians. Dr. Garrett replied that Daniel Kleindienst has asked for 5 custodians for Cartwright Elementary and for 1 maintenance worker. Dr. Garrett will be looking at classes for extreme behavior students and for general education classes for significant behavior students. There was discussion on educational assistants and how they are needed in the schools. She also mentioned that there are grants for therapy dogs that she will be looking into.
