I. Budget for 2023-2024 year
Discussion:
The Bedford County Board of Education met in a study session on May 11, 2023 at 6:00 pm in the Central Office board room located at 500 Madison St., Shelbyville, TN. Board members Andrea Anderson, Michael Cook, Glenn Forsee, Barton Williams, Shanna Boyette, Dan Reed and Brian Crews were present. David Brown was absent.
Also present was Robert Daniel, Bedford County Finance Director, Dr. Tammy Garrett, the BCS Superintendent and Tim Harwell, the Assistant Superintendent. Each board member had a copy of the budget. Mr. Daniel went over most pages and line items explaining the numbers. Mr. Daniel stated that the budget could be approved at either the Junes 13th or June 29th commissioners’ meeting. Bedford County Schools will get $4 million for CTE and $12 million from the state. This makes for an increase of $16 million to the budget. There were 2 proposals for the Bedford County Administrative Index and proposal 1 is included in the budget. There was discussion on the cost of the addition to Thomas Magnet School and it is estimated to be $1.9 million. The estimated cost for the addition to Liberty School is $5.2 million. These estimates were done by Kline-Swinney. The additions could be finished in close to 12 months. Dr. Garrett said we could possibly be out of the portable business by August 2024. The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:10 pm. |
