I. Budget for 2023-2024 year
Discussion:
The Bedford County Board of Education met in a study session on April 27, 2023 at 6:00 pm in the Central Office board room located at 500 Madison St., Shelbyville, TN. Board members Andrea Anderson, Michael Cook, Glenn Forsee, Barton Williams, Shanna Boyette, David Brown, Dan Reed and Brian Crews were present.
Also present was Robert Daniel, Bedford County Finance Director, Dr. Tammy Garrett, the BCS Superintendent and Tim Harwell, the Assistant Superintendent. Each board member had a draft copy of the budget. Mr. Daniel went over most pages and line items explaining the numbers. He said the tax revenue numbers are not all in, still waiting on numbers from the Assessor’s Office. There was much discussion on needing to add the wing onto Liberty School and a wing onto Thomas Magnet School. They talked about when adding the wings onto the schools will need to address upgrades to the cafeteria and gym at both schools. There was discussion on getting started planning the athletic fields at Community High School and Cascade High School. Possibly getting an architect to do the design. They also discussed upgrading the concessions and restrooms at other schools. There was discussion on raises for teachers and classified staff. And also raises for Dr. Garrett, Mr. Harwell and principals to get those more in line with surrounding counties. The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:00 pm. |
