V. ACTION ITEMS
|
V.A. Revision - Policy 1.400 - School Board Meetings
Rationale:
This revision is needed if it is the will of the Board to move their regular monthly meeting to the third Tuesday of the month.
|
V.B. Revision - Policy 5.701 - Substitute Teachers
Rationale:
This is a revision suggested by TSBA as a result of Public Chapter 202 of 2011. LEAs now have the statutory authority to contract with a third party employer to provide substitute teachers. Our current policy mirrors the prior law by stating that substitutes had to be employed and paid by the local board of education. This revision indicates that the system may employ substitutes or contract with others to provide these services.
|
V.C. Revision - Policy 6.200-Attendance
Rationale:
This revision is being brought by Mr. Looper after having worked with the truancy board and county officials to come up with more serious consequences in an effort to improve attendance.
|
V.D. Revision - Policy 1.802 - Section 504 and ADA Grievance Procedures
Rationale:
Tennesse LEAs are required to adopt a policy regarding Section 504 impartial due process hearings with respect to evaluation, eligibility, and placement of students. This is due to a complaint that was filed by the US Dept of Education's Office for Civil Rights in Atlanta against Tennessee school districts regarding Section 504. The complaint alleged that Tennessee LEAs failed to develop and disseminate a system of procedural safeguards, including provisions regarding Section 504 impartial due process hearings with respect to evaluation, eligilbility, and placement of students.
