Discussion:  The Smith County Board of Education met at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, XXX, at the Smith County Board of Education. Mr. XXX provided the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. 

Discussion:  Mr. Ricky Shoulders, Chairman of the Board, welcomed all visitors and called the XX meeting of the board to order.

Discussion:  Request to approve the regular meeting minutes of the Board - Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

Discussion:  Gordonsville High School requests permission for the following:

1. Gordonsville High School Band would like permission to hold band camp on July 22-26, 2024, at GHS. They will also be having several rehearsals in July. The band will perform at the Opening Ceremony for the Smith County Fair on July 1, 2024. The band also requests permission to travel to MTSU on July 26 for a day trip.
2. The Gordonsville High School Cheerleaders would like to attend camp this year at TTU in Cookeville on June 18-21, 2024.

Discussion:  Smith County High School requests permission for the following:

1. Smith County High School Girls Soccer requests permission to participate in the Smoky Mountain Cup Tournament in Gatlinburg on September 6-8, 2024. This will be an overnight trip.
2. Smith County High School Welding requests permission to participate in the Skills USA State Competition in Chattanooga on April 15-17, 2024. This will be an overnight trip. (Trip approved by Mr. Smith. New teacher did not realize he needed board approval). 

Discussion:  Request to approve the 2024 Summer School Guidelines for grades 9-12.

Discussion:  Request to send all non-tenured teachers a letter of non-renewal as required by T.C.A. 49-5-409, "Continuing Contract Law"

Discussion:  Request to approve the bid of $2.89 per gallon for 7,500 gallons of diesel fuel from Mixon-Nollner

Discussion:  Request to approve the 2025 TSBA (Tennessee School Boards Association) Membership Dues - $3,500.00.

Discussion:  Request to update Policy 4.605 Graduation Requirements to increase the number of credit units required to twenty-eight (28) beginning with the freshmen class of 2024-2025.
This is the second and final reading.

Discussion:  Request to include in the proposed budget to be considered by the board a 10% salary increase for all employees for the 2024-2025 school year.

Discussion:  Request to include in the proposed budget to be considered by the board to pay for health insurance for all full time non-certified employees for the 2024-2025 school year with a start date of January 1, 2025.

Discussion:  Approval of Board of Education to Pay Board Member Appointed to County Financial Committee for Each Meeting 

Discussion:  Request to approve 5-A Painting for the Painting of the Smith County Middle School Wellness Center. The bid price for 5-A Painting is $20,700 for Smith County Middle School.

Discussion:  Request to approve Cumberland Supply for the Masonry - Materials for the
Smith County Middle School Wellness Center. The bid price for Cumberland Supply is $22,000.00 for Smith County Middle School.

Discussion:  Request to approve Acosta Masonry for the Masonry - Labor for the Smith County Middle School Wellness Center. The bid price for Acosta Masonry is $27,150.00 for Smith County Middle School.

Discussion:  Request to approve Stone Service Corporation for the Mechanical-HVAC for the Smith County Middle School Wellness Center. The bid price for Stone Service Corporation is $159,450.00 for Smith County Middle School.

Discussion:  Request to approve Groce Electric for the Electrical for the Smith County Middle School Wellness Center. The bid price for Groce Electric is $180,000.00 for Smith County Middle School.

Discussion:  Request to approve Himmel Architectural Door & Hardware for the doors for the Smith County Middle School Wellness Center. The bid price for Himmel Architectural Door & Hardware is $37,465.86 for the Smith County Middle School Wellness Center.

No bids were received for doors for the Gordonsville High School Wellness Center. Upon contacting vendors, Himmel has submitted the lowest price. The quote price for Himmel Architectural Door & Hardware is $28,539.97 for doors for the Gordonsville High School Wellness Center.

Discussion:  Request to Advertise to Seek Qualifications for Architectural Services for the remodel/renovation of the current Carthage Save-a-Lot Building
