Recommend the following changes:

High School Courses:  Delete #2 Note: 

A student's final average for any course will be reflected as follows: 

1.  Student is EXEMPT from final exam - Q1 - 50%                                                           

                                                           Q2 - 50%

2.  Student is NOT EXEMPT from final exam: 

Q1 - 43.75%       

Q2 - 43.75%                                            

F1 - 12.5% (Teacher Final Exam)

The above procedure mirrors what has been done in the past when a high school course did not have an End of Course exam (i.e. foreign language)

Recommend the following change:

B. Grading

Delete sentence stating "A student's scores on TCAP Achievement test will count 15% of the second semester average."

There are 3 draft calendar options for the 2016-17 school year. 

From October 20-October 28,  we conducted a survey of Sullivan County Department of Education employees regarding their preferences for the 2016-17 calendar.  The results of that survey are attached. 

The Board will select two of these draft calendar options to present to all stakeholders in a survey in November in order to gather input for the final vote on the 2016-17 calendar at the December Board meeting.

Each year our system reviews new textbooks in a particular curriculum area.  The State Department of Education mandates that these reviews be accomplished by committees of classroom teachers currently teaching in the curriculum area being reviewed and a parent who has a student currently enrolled in the course being considered for adoption.  The final recommendations of these committees will be presented to the Board in April 2016 for approval.  The curriculum areas being considered for 2015-16 are Advanced Manufacturing, Information Technology, Human Services, and Education and Training.

I recommend the attached list of classroom teachers and parents serve as the Textbook Adoption Committees for the 2015-16 school year.
