E.W. Grove Report
Speaker(s):  Mr. Sam Tharpe & Mr. Tim Mason

Mr. Tharpe opened the E.W. Grove report by discussing the topic of literacy and the importance of reducing the achievement gaps and focusing on the needs of the students. Before introducing Mr. Tim Mason, Assistant Principal at E.W. Grove, Mr. Tharpe thanked the board and the IT Department for their continued work and support.

Mr. Tim Mason stated that he was excited about the work going on in every reading classroom. All six reading teachers have been doing a wonderful job in preparing these students for the next level in their education journey.

Mr. Mason wanted to elaborate on the use of technology at E.W. Grove School. With the assistance of Mr. John Mayros, Ms. Courtney Melton, and Mrs. Alex Cox along with several students , multiple presentations were provided on the use of Chromebooks and the additional teaching tools of Google such as; Google Docs, Flickr, and Khoots. Not only are these tools helping students advance in English but have also helped in improving the students reading abilities. These tools aid in teaching better typing skills and better prepare students for the writing assessments through collaborative interaction.

In closing, the teachers agreed that not only does the use of technology help students learn , but allows the school to save money since teachers no longer have to print out multiple paper copies as teaching materials for the students to learn.
